PS 290 Queens, New York (Graves-MMA JV Architects, PLLC) To meet the current New York City Capital Plan for Schools, the New York City Schools Construction Authority has commissioned the Graves-MMA Joint Venture to design a new primary school, PS290Q. The proposed facility will accommodate an adjusted student capacity of 616 in grades PK through 5 to meet the current and projected needs for the surrounding community. The site is located at the corner of Metropolitan Avenue, a heavily trafficked two-way main thoroughfare, and Tonsor Street in the Ridgewood section of Queens. Currently under construction, this project accommodates approximately 102,000 SF in 5 full floors above grade and one partial cellar. The main entrance is located at roughly the midpoint of the property on Metropolitan Avenue and is accessed through a paved plaza adjacent to the general playground. The school includes dedicated science classrooms, a library, a gymnasium and a flexible “gymatorium.”
