St. Mary's Women's Center
St. Mary's Health Care System urgently needed to enhance its Women’s program, and MMA rose to the challenge with remarkable speed and efficiency. Within a mere 21 days, MMA prepared detailed conceptual drawings and computer animations, forming the basis for the Certificate of Need (CON) application. This proactive approach secured a significant market share advantage for St. Mary's. The project's initial budget impressively remained unchanged throughout, leading to the creation of a facility that exceeded expectations. Initially hesitant OB-GYNs, skeptical of transitioning to single-room care, became strong proponents of this family-oriented birthing approach. The design's adaptability facilitated a smooth transition from Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) to Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum (LDRP) rooms, aligning with evolving practice habits. The design also earned accolades for enhancing operational and staff efficiencies, showcasing MMA's ability to create a competitive edge for healthcare facilities.
The new obstetrical unit at St. Mary's boasts single-room maternity suites equipped with amenities like overnight accommodations, digital entertainment, data points, Sanijet NSF approved whirlpools, and more, evoking a luxurious, comforting atmosphere. Private foyers outside each room enhance privacy and communication, while the suites meet ACOG parameters and provide acoustic isolation and visual screening. The unit, designed for optimal staff efficiency regardless of patient volume, features a three-story Birthing Atrium flooded with natural light, complementing the Renaissance Revival design. The design process involved extensive staff and physician input, including field trips and mock-up validations. Furthermore, the latest in neonatal healing environment design is incorporated into the new 20-infant NICU unit, which is visually connected to the maternity area for added emotional comfort and security. MMA’s innovative design maximizes space utilization and efficiency in a building just 85 feet wide, proving that inspiring, healing environments can coexist with clinical efficiency.
As part of the 100,000 square foot Phase 1 Women’s/NICU/Diagnostics project., MMA was able to reorient and expand the existing Diagnostics unit. A significant development in this expansion was the establishment of a new, private high-throughput digital Women’s imaging unit, specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of women's healthcare. This modern unit integrates advanced imaging technologies, ensuring that women receive the most accurate and efficient diagnostic services. This enhancement not only elevates the level of women's healthcare services offered at St. Mary's but also underscores MMA’s commitment to designing spaces that are both patient-centered and technologically sophisticated.
