Fort Totten Walmart
Fort Totten Square stands as a pinnacle achievement for JBG Building Company (JBG). This expansive project encompasses a 345-unit apartment complex and 130,000 square feet of retail space, notably featuring an urban-format Walmart strategically located near the Fort Totten Subway. As a collaboration between JBG and Walmart, it follows the success of 77H near Union Station, solidifying their partnership in transformative mixed-use developments.
Situated merely four blocks from the Station, Fort Totten Square enjoys seamless connectivity to the city and suburbs through the Red, Yellow, and Green Lines. Positioned as a transit-centric locale, it aims to revitalize South Dakota and Riggs Road, emerging as the nucleus of commercial activity in the evolving Fort Totten neighborhood, envisioned as a bustling "transit village."
Keith Anderson, JBG's President, underscores the significance of this achievement: "Our collaboration on the second Walmart community has been an inspiring journey from the initial design stages to its realization. It's been an exhilarating project, and we're thrilled to see it come to fruition."
In addition to its architectural and communal impact, Fort Totten Square aligns with the stringent sustainability goals embraced by Walmart projects. Similar to H Street's LEED Commercial Interiors Certification, Fort Totten Square focused on similar LEED points and sustainable systems to obtain the same certification. This commitment echoes through energy-efficient features, rainwater management, and other eco-conscious initiatives, mirroring the environmentally conscious approach established by its predecessor, H Street.
This venture marks a milestone in redefining mixed-use developments, blending urban convenience with sustainable design principles. Fort Totten Square stands as a testament to JBG's vision, not only transforming physical landscapes but also spearheading innovative, environmentally friendly approaches within the real estate development sphere.
